Television Essay
Television is a combination of two words ‘Tele’ and ‘Vision’. ‘Tele’ means ‘distance’ and ‘vision’ means ‘to see’. It means to see from a distance. Television is one of the latest inventions of our age. We can see people. and their movements on the television.
Television is very common in Western countries. In Pakistan, we have television stations in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta. It is an important means of information education and entertainment. It is a source of information. People can be informed of all the happenings in the country in economic, industrial and political affairs.
The head of the state can speak directly to the people. It is a powerful weapon of propaganda. Television provides entertainment to people. It has taken the place of cinema. We can watch a match on the television. Music, dance, dramas, and stories are presented on the small screen.
Special programs for students, children, men and women are arranged. Quiz programs, Faham-i-Quran and recitation of the Holy Quran are also telecast. Television has done a great service in the field of education and research. Students can see difficult experiments and operations on television.
It can educate the common man. Sometimes such programs are displayed that show artificial aspects of life. Criminal stories create a harmful effect on the spectators. Watching television for a long time is harmful to the eye-sight. But indeed Television is a great source of education and entertainmentÂ
