Soil pollution is a major challenge to our environment today. Soil pollution is a term you may not hear often, but it is very important to constantly monitor soil pollution. Soil pollution is the pollution of fertile soil which reduces the productivity of the soil due to various toxic pollutants.
Toxic pollutants are very dangerous and adversely affect the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil. Various pollutants like pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, chemicals, radioactive waste, organic manure, dirty food, clothes, plastic, paper, leather goods, bottles etc.
They mix with the soil and cause soil pollution. Other chemicals are emitted from different sources like iron, mercury, lead, copper, zinc etc. They are toxic chemicals that cause soil pollution. Acid rain is a natural cause that also indirectly affects soil fertility. Besides, deforestation is also a cause of soil pollution. As the number of trees in the environment decreases, soil pollution increases.
All these industrial, urban, radioactive and biological wastes, which are dumped into the ground without processing or management, cause massive soil pollution and endanger the lives of humans, animals and other organisms that are somehow dependent on the land. Soil pollution also affects health, such as respiratory and bronchial diseases, asthma, cancer, etc. Soil pollution is an environmental problem that affects all forms of life.
To reduce and limit soil pollution, individuals, especially industrialists, should follow all effective control measures, including environmental protection laws. Also, people should encourage the recycling and reuse of solid waste and plant more trees.
